Effective communication with limited English proficient (LEP) survivors requires that programs federally conducted and/or government funded have language assistance services in place. This webinar explains Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 obligations of recipients of federal funding, including legal services and victim assistance programs. Faculty provides information and resources on how to develop a language access plan within your program and how to use U.S. Census and local demographic data to assess the number or proportion of LEP persons from each language group in your service area. Building upon this information, the webinar discusses language access requirements for courts, law enforcement, health care, and benefits providers and best practices for language access advocacy for LEP clients with these agencies.
