This paper describes a community organizing project that worked within an African American community to mobilize and train citizen leaders and business gatekeepers to safely and effectively intervene in cases of domestic violence and to raise awareness about the issue in their neighborhood.
The booklet's report has sections on the background of CAWC and Austin Community Domestic Violence Project (ACDVP), ACDVP implementation and project development issues, and next steps and conclusions. Nine Appendices include: project goals and strategies; the citizen leader training manual contents, training agreement and survey; the Domestic Violence Attitute Pre-test & Post-test; Gatekeepers Log, and other materials. A single Attachment A details Austin Area Demographics.
This paper is one of a series of demonstration project reports coordinated by the Public Education Technical Assistance Project of the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence.
