This is a tipsheet for reporters to help them report sensitively and accurately on issues involving intimate partner violence. Topics covered include understanding that surface appearances are not an accurate indication of what victims have endured, understanding why a victim may not leave an abusive relationship, and understanding how abusive relationships can escalate. Frequent mistakes in reporting on intimate partner violence including victim blaming and not providing information on where victims can seek help are also covered.
