This article encourages domestic violence advocates and attorneys to use civil protection orders as a tool to help their clients access economic security. Though the specific remedies will vary from state to state, the article explains some ways that civil protection orders can be used to gain economic relief for survivors. It then discusses practical strategies that advocates should use in seeking such relief. The point that the survivor must make her own decision about which economic remedies to pursue (or whether to pursue them at all) is emphasized.
