The purpose of this research was to examine the extent to which local level domestic violence serious incident/fatality reviews exist in New York State. Findings indicate that domestic violence serious incident/fatality reviews were relatively rare events in New York State in 2006. However, the survey also revealed that professionals from counties with reviews believed that reviews were very helpful in improving their community’s response to domestic violence. This report discusses models of serious incident/fatality review as well as future initiatives that might involve a larger, comprehensive, domestic violence accountability assessment structure for every community in New York State.
