In this podcast episode from the Center for Court Innovation, Juan Carlos Areán is joined by Reverend Dr. Anne Marie Hunter, the executive director and founder of Safe Havens Interfaith Partnership Against Domestic Violence and Other Abuse; Dr. David Adams, co-founder and co-director of Emerge Counseling and Education to Stop Domestic Violence; and Dr. Oliver Williams, senior consultant for the African American Domestic Peace Project. They discuss the importance of engaging and partnering with faith leaders in the community response against domestic violence, highlighting several faith leaders who have used their platform to engage with people who use violence as well as a new toolkit on the topic, Between Compassion and Accountability, Guidelines for Faith Leaders Responding to People Who Abuse Intimate Partners. They also speak about how abusive partner intervention facilitators can more effectively engage participants of faith in their programs as well as the importance being culturally responsive as it relates to participants’ faith.
