This publication grows out of the center’s work fostering more than 40 local community-based collaborations of social service providers, criminal justice agencies, victim advocacy groups, and disability organizations, funded by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Violence Against Women’s (OVW) Disability Grant Program between 2006 and 2010.
Women with disabilities who have experienced violence or sexual assault need a unique combination of services, each of which traditionally operates in an agency that does not work with the others. Vera Institute of Justice’s Center on Victimization and Safety has created a roadmap for bringing together agencies at the intersection of violence and disability so that they can create a new and effective approach to safety, healing, and accessibility to services for their clients.
