Innovative Strategies To Provide Housing For Battered Women

Highlights how eight domestic violence organizations are responding to the housing needs of battered women in their communities. Projects highlighted are: Elizabeth Stone House in Massachusetts; Stop Abusive Family Environments (SAFE) in West Virginia; Middle Way House, Inc. in Indiana; Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence; Women Opting for More Affordable Housing Now, Inc.(WOMAN, Inc.) in Texas; Project Link in Pennsylvania; Boulder County Safe House in Colorado; and, Family Unification Program in Iowa. All of the initiatives described involve collaborative relationships with other agencies, including local and state public housing authorities, homeless coalitions, non-profit housing developers and/or homeless service providers. Various aspects of creating housing programs are explored, including resource acquisition, building collaborations with other agencies, and program development.
