Now That We Know: Findings and Recommendations from the Washington State Domestic Violence Fatality Review

This report provides key data findings about domestic violence homicides and suicides in Washington State for 1997-2008 as well as recommendations for change from the Washington State Domestic Violence Fatality Review. One of the striking findings discussed in this report is the overrepresentation of women of color among victims of domestic violence homicide in Washington State. In fact, Hispanic/Latina, African American, American Indian and Alaska Native, and Asian and Pacific Islander women in that state are at a 2.5 to 3.5 times greater risk for domestic violence homicide than white, non-Hispanic women. Data related to communities of color are presented in the chapter “Barriers to Safety for Victims of Color, Native Victims, and Immigrant Victims,” beginning on page 37.
