Human trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, obtaining, patronizing, soliciting of a person or obtaining of a person for labor or services and or a commercial sex act. Contrary to popular belief, human trafficking is not limited to impoverished third-world countries. According to the 2018 Human Trafficking Search report, the National Human Trafficking Hotline (NHTH) received 8,759 reported cases of human trafficking in the United States in 2017.

In observance of Human Trafficking Awareness Month 2019, NRCDV is highlighting the work of Freedom Network USA, the largest coalition of experts and advocates providing direct services to survivors of human trafficking in the U.S. Freedom Network also engages in advocacy work nationwide, provides training and technical assistance in order to enhance the capacity of its members. In this podcast, Marium Durrani (Director of Public Policy, NRCDV) and Karen Romero (Training Institute Director, Freedom Network USA) discuss the many intersections involving human trafficking, including housing and homelessness.
