This toolkit is a guide for community-based advocates who support the self-determination and safety of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) survivors of intimate partner violence who are involved with the legal system. LGBTQ people experience intimate partner violence at similar rates as people in heterosexual relationships, but only some LGBTQ survivors end up interacting with the legal system. This toolkit highlights the obstacles survivors face in the criminal and civil legal systems and provides tools for advocates to support survivors in their journey.
