LGBTQ adults experience higher-than-typical rates of violence, but the problem often begins when they are children. This white paper explains how and why LGBTQ children and youth experience disproportionate rates of violence and trauma, and how those experiences tend to lead to even more violence and trauma down the road. Most importantly, it explains how this trajectory can be disrupted, even by neighbors and other bystanders.
