Pregnant women's experiences and needs for emotional support, physical well-being, access to healthcare and other community-based services are significantly different from women who are not pregnant. For pregnant women also dealing with past or current domestic violence and currently residing in a domestic violence shelter or safe house, the multitude of experiences and needs may be even greater.

On this webinar, Dr. Michele Decker discussed the link between dating/domestic violence and women's exposure to HIV. Ways to raise awareness, decrease stigma and increase services for HIV+ women were shared for crisis counselors, domestic violence victim advocates and shelter managers.

This partnership and collaboration template allows multiple agencies to draw on their strengths to support ending violence and HIV in their communities.

In the past decade, it has become increasingly clear that addressing trauma requires a multi-agency, multi-pronged approach. Public education, prevention, early identification, and effective trauma assessment and treatment are all necessary to break the cycle of trauma and violence. Significant progress has been made in creating organizational cultures based on knowledge of trauma and its impact (trauma-informed approaches), strategies to prevent or reduce rates of violence and trauma, and effective treatment interventions (trauma-specific treatments).
