Factors Associated with Women's Risk of Rape in the Military Environment
Publisher(s):A research article that discusses findings of a survey of 558 women enrolled in the national VA healthcare registry. Twenty eight percent (n=151) of participants reported experiencing rape. The authors found that certain environmental factors increased the likelihood of rape, including sexual harassment and unwanted sexual advances on duty.

Issues Specific to Women (Fact Sheets)
Publisher(s):Women report exposure to many different types of traumatic events, and are especially likely to experience sexual assault in childhood, adulthood, or both. Sexual assault is a type of trauma that often leads to the onset of PTSD for both women and men. Given greater exposure to this type of trauma, women are particularly at risk for PTSD. These fact sheets have information that is specific to women veterans and trauma.
