Advocacy and law enforcement professionals often struggle on the winding journey through the criminal justice system. Despite a shared goal of finding justice for survivors, true partnership is elusive when assumptions and biases create obstacles along the path.

This national webinar will provide judges, advocates, and attorneys with up-to-date information about VAWA confidentiality protections for immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and other crimes. Participants will learn to identify which victims qualify for VAWA confidentiality protections and when these protections apply. Faculty will address common myths and facts about how VAWA confidentiality protects victims from removal and ensures protection at specific locations, including courthouses.

This introductory webinar will describe the dynamics and common tactics that characterize domestic violence. It will also provide an overview of the scope and impact on individuals and society.

Primary prevention of sexual and intimate partner violence can be a complex field filled with technical language, jargon, and acronyms. At the core, it means stopping violence before it ever has a chance to happen and fostering communities where all people can thrive. This web conference will provide a foundation for addressing the roots of inequities that contribute to violence in order to create environments where violence is less likely to happen.
