From spiritual abuse to being a key tenant of survivors’ healing journey, faith plays a critical role in many survivors’ experiences with violence. This webinar gathered four of API-GBV’s partners from a multi-year faith-based advocacy project that reached several Chinese/Taiwanese Christian churches and seminaries, Sikh gurdwaras, and Korean Christian congregations in California.

The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, in collaboration with partners from across the Pacific Coast region of the United States, held our third virtual Prevention Town Hall on September 14 and 15, 2022. This event was an opportunity to dig deeply into the theme “Prevention is Radical” across 2 days. El Centro Nacional de Recursos sobre Violencia Doméstica, en colaboración con socios de todo el sur de los Estados Unidos, llevó a cabo nuestro tercer Ayuntamiento de Prevención virtual el 14 y 15 de septiembre de 2022. Este evento fué una oportunidad para profundizar en el tema La Prevención es Radical por 2 días.

The intersection between domestic violence, housing instability, and homelessness continues to be a pressing issue for the field. To this end, the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence conducted a two-part needs assessment project to assess survivors' current and emerging housing needs, particularly in Black and Brown communities, and to document innovative community-based solutions.

Before and Beyond Crisis is a roadmap for expanding our society’s response to gender-based violence beyond short-term crisis support. The roadmap makes survivor-informed recommendations for how every pillar of our society–from banks, hospitals, and schools to policymakers, employers, and other stakeholders–can help build a new ecosystem of support that addresses the reality of how GBV shows up in survivors’ lives. 

Young people have always been on the front lines of our social justice movements, pushing us to be bolder and more innovative. The July 2022 Technical Assistance Question of the Month (TAQ) offers some key considerations for forming and sustaining a youth advisory board for your domestic violence organization.

How do we support women and girls, and assist advocates in creating brave spaces and thriving communities while we dismantle biased systems?

The seeds for this survey were planted in the months following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. Like the advocates at our member programs, ODVN wanted to better understand how survivors—women of color, specifically, along with other marginalized groups—experience law enforcement and other parts of the response system. We surveyed 505 survivors across the state to get some answers.

This report highlights juvenile justice and public safety concerns and recommendations from Tribal youth ages 14–24.  

This blueprint provides a nonprescriptive roadmap to how we can build collaborative relationships with community partners within and outside the anti-sexual violence movement. It identifies best practices, models, and resources for creating, encouraging, and preserving community collaborations both in conventional and innovative ways, hence strengthening the capacity of our sexual assault programs and bridging the gaps with other social service organizations and institutions.

Transformative justice is prevention! Victims of abuse are often times reluctant to report and/or share their experiences based on a myriad of reasons. However, the desire for justice and safety is still needed and necessary. This strategy session from NRCDV's 2021 Prevention Town Hall highlights alternative community-based solutions that center victim support and healing. ¡La justicia transformadora es prevención! Las víctimas de abuso son a menudo reacias a denunciar tal abuso o a contar su experiencias debido a una infinidad de razones. Sin embargo, el deseo por la justicia y la seguridad sigue siendo inevitable y necesario. Esta sesión de estrategias del Congreso de Prevención 2021 del NRCDV, destaca soluciones alternativas que provienen de la comunidad y que se enfocan en el apoyo y la sanación de las víctimas.
