Prevention Programming Content Topic Results

This document reviews promising initiatives to promote gender equality and the effectiveness of such approaches in reducing VAW. These include school-based programs, community interventions such as microfinance, public awareness campaigns, and initiatives that engage men.

This second volume reviews eight programs that address different forms of violence against women to identify what works in programming to address violence against women.

A needs and resources assessment is a systematic process of gathering and critically interpreting information (data) about a given problem. This 2-pager describes the process for identifying and prioritizing needs in 3 categories for the development of a primary prevention plan.

Mobilizing communities to prevent domestic violence involves engaging communities in supporting, developing, and implementing prevention strategies that target change in individuals, as well as in the community and society. Potential strategies include educating the community, building support among key stakeholders for prevention efforts, developing programs that strengthen social networks, organizing community groups to challenge social norms that contribute to the use of violence, and advocating for community accountability.

This document presents a gender analysis of teen dating violence. The author draws on various studies to examine physical aggression by girls and boys. The authors describe the differences between adult intimate partner violence and teen dating violence and note that applying adult intimate partner violence perspective to teen dating violence is problematic.

This web conference highlighted two promising and well-evaluated bystander intervention programs, Bringing in the Bystander and Mentors in Violence Prevention. The conference discussed the principles behind these programs, and explored advancing community change to promote pro-social bystander actions.
