This handbook is intended to assist States and other stakeholders in enhancing existing or developing new laws to protect women. Included here are a summary of international and legal policy framework, a model framework for legislation on VAW, and a checklist of steps to be taken when drafting the legislation. *See also: Supplement: Harmful practices Against Women by the United Nations (March 2011)

This framework is a technical assistant tool designed to support UN member states to effectively implement the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, which is a protocol that obligates its ratifying states to prevent and combat trafficking in persons.

This publication offers policy and practical guidelines for implementing gender-sensitive risk reduction efforts.

The document highlights and synthesizes issues and concerns related to addressing VAW globally. Promising practices from different countries to address VAW in areas of law, service provision, and prevention are included. The document concludes with recommendations for action in seven key strategic areas.

This guide aims to serve as a user-friendly tool for human rights education and a multi-coloured umbrella covering a number of basic human rights areas. It offers practical advice to teachers and other educators who want to foster human rights awareness and action among primary and secondary school children, including suggestions for developing learning activities.

The website of the International Criminal Court states that "the ICC is an independent and permanent court that tries individuals accused of such egregious international crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes." It also makes clear that "the ICC is a court of last resort" and "only tries those accused of the gravest crimes." The Rome Statute governs the jurisdiction and functioning of the ICC. It consists of a preamble and 13 Parts. The Statute is available in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Arabic languages.

Adopted in 1993 by the UN General Assembly, this declaration defines violence against women. As a consequence of the declaration, the Commission on Human Rights adopted Resolution 1994/45 that appointed a Special Rapporteur on violence against women.

Included in this publication is a policy guideline on gender mainstreaming, and practical guidelines on how to institutionalize gender-sensitive risk assessments, implement gender-sensitive early warning systems, and use gender-sensitive indicators to monitor gender mainstreaming progress. Also included is a summary of the limited global progress in this task so far, and a list of further readings.
