This document provides an introduction to basic prevention concepts by exploring the public health approach, two classification systems, a planning tool used to develop more comprehensive initiatives, and the importance of understanding terminology. It addresses the topics of women's health, mental health and substance abuse, family planning, STIs and HIV, perinatal programs, breastfeeding, child and adolescent health, and injury and violence prevention.

This resource manual provides information about domestic violence and tools for identification and intervention by health care practitioners.

This Trainer’s Manual encourages the integration of the sometimes separate fields of health, domestic violence, and culture in the development of health care policies, procedures, practice, and trainings for responding to domestic violence victims. The Trainer's Manual is a companion piece to "Improving the Health Care Responses to Domestic Violence: A Resource Manual for Health Care Providers."

Aside from setting screening guidelines, this manual discusses barriers faced by women in rural communities when attempting to protect themselves from domestic violence and presents guidelines for coordinating community response to domestic violence.

This curriculum provides training, tools, and resources to help home visitation staff address the complex and sometimes uncomfortable issue of domestic violence. When it comes to promoting health and safety outcomes for women and children impacted by domestic violence, there is a methodology to effective assessment, primary prevention, and anticipatory guidance messaging during home visits. These tools have been designed to facilitate safety planning and supported referrals to domestic violence programs.

These core competencies were developed to help ensure that all health care professionals have a solid understanding of violence and abuse and gain the skills and confidence to work with patients, clients, colleagues and health care systems in order to respond.

This document reviews the literature on education of nurses in domestic violence and informs educators, researchers, and policy makers about the gaps in nursing education in the area of violence against women.

While nurses must be able to respond skillfully to victims of all types of violence, responding to victims of family violence requires sensitivity rooted in understanding how it differs from other types of violence. The content of this curriculum, which grew out of the 1999 American Association of Colleges of Nursing competencies, was developed in response to those findings to provide Minnesota nursing faculty essential curricular information to develop student competence in preventing, assessing, and responding to family violence across the lifespan.

This brief notes that health care providers receive inadequate training on domestic violence prevention, identification, and response, and presents guidelines for students to organize fellow students and faculty to initiate policy change.
